2010 Kitchens & Bathrooms Awards – Best Kitchen in a Display Home

July 3, 2010

The West Australian

Slide open the doors to enter this ensuite and the eyes are immediately drawn to the opulent vanity. The ensuite is part of the Switch Homes for Living display Switcheight30 and was designed by both the Switch Design Team and Giltedge Cabinet Makers so that the twin vanity was the focal point of the room. The vanity has an essastone benchtop with white recessed basins and has been teamed with both white and timber veneer cabinetry beneath. Beyond the vanity is a floating wall with iridescent mosaic tiles and a feature light above each mirror. Behind the floating wall is a spacious shower and a toilet.
The kitchen of the Switcheight30 combines space with abundant light and a free-flowing layout. Feature lights hang above the central island bench and downlights feature throughout the rest of the kitchen. A combination of glossy surfaces, including a glass splashback and essastone benchtops
bounces the light around the room.
The central island bench has waterfall ends and a breakfast bar. The stainless-steel appliances include a gas cooktop, electric oven and microwave.
Off the kitchen is the laundry, which was designed to make the most of the available space with maximum storage, including overhead cupboards and a built-in work area.
Timber-look laminate to the cabinetry and earthy paint tones give the room a warm atmosphere, while the splashback to the sink area has been tiled in white with a feature strip. Off-white laminate to the cupboards above the sink keep the room feeling light.
