Quality kitchen the hub of clever home

Clever design has ensured the galley kitchen at the back of Switch Homes Centro display, in Golden Bay, combines aesthetic appeal with functionality, demonstrating that narrow-lot living need not mean compromising on space.

Although the display occupies a 7.5m-wide, rear-loaded cottage block, its kitchen would not look out of place in a sprawling home on a significantly bigger block. The kitchen combines broad sections of uncluttered meal preparation space, quality fixtures and streamlined cooking appliances in a layout that works extremely well. It also connects through the laundry to the double garage.

Sales and marketing manager Damian Monteleone said the aim was to ensure the kitchen functioned as the hub of the home, due to its proximity to the living and dining rooms. “The design although simple and functional, is warm and inviting, whether you are sitting at the breakfast bar or cooking dinner while the kids are working on their homework at the dining table,” he said. “The long island bench is a strong feature of the kitchen, and its expanse allows for easy meal preparation even while someone is sitting at the breakfast bar. “The relationship with the living areas is also an important part of the home, as this creates an intimate yet open space.”

Benchtops are in 20mm engineered stone and the 900mm stainless-steel ove, cooktop and slide out rangehood, by Tisira, are centred on a row of cabinets against the external wall, with the two-door  pantry and fridge/freezer recess easily accessed at the other end. At a matching 600mm microwave oven is at one end of the island bench. At the other end of house, the ensuite in the main suite is designed with a focus on practicality and privacy. Although it occupies a compact space, its design incorporates an oversized shower with semi-frameless pivoting screen door, neat vanity unit and toilet.

“With a cottage style home, it’s important to maximise spaces and the ensuite is no different,” Mr Monteleone said. “The ensuite fulfils a client’s need for a functional space with good storage and, for a compact space, it feels much bigger. The large shower, easy-to-access vanity and plenty of storage means there has been no compromising on space or style”.

A caroma Cosmo semi-recessed white china basin, Caroma Venencia mixer tap and sleek laminex benchtop combine with neutral tile and cabinetry colours to give the ensuite a fresh, appealing look.
